An annual event at Geilston Garden enjoyed a record number of visitors at the weekend.
The Cardross garden held its annual Apple Day on Saturday, October 1, organised by The Friends of Geilston (FoG), and it proved very popular, with cars parked from the driveway to the gates to enter the attraction.
The day was to promote Geilston’s collection of apple trees with all their varieties and also featured an apple trail through the orchard and walled garden full of interesting facts for keen enthusiasts to learn which was rewarded with an Apple Expert Sticker.
Many who came were first time visitors with families, who found plenty to keep them busy.
Children were occupied with a woodland trail collecting items along the way which they were able to bring back to an activity hub and turn into their own treasures.
And John Hancox, the Apple Man, squeezed lots of fresh apple juice for visitors to enjoy and delicious homemade soup and bread was donated by The Ginger Breadman in Helensburgh.
A FoG spokesman told the Reporter: “It was a fabulous day. Apple Day is a big undertaking for us but it ran so well as the result of fantastic teamwork.
“Friends members, volunteers, our wildlife partners, amazing baking team and generous donors all pulled together to provide a fun day with something for everyone and we cannot thank them all enough.
“It was an absolute joy to see many happy people enjoying the garden.
“As always, the garden itself was the star of the day and our biggest thanks go to the magnificent gardening team, who maintain this beautiful resource within our community to such a high standard for us all to enjoy, not just on Apple Day but throughout the season.”
